Mother’s Day Song (Rosalie Sorrels)

“Mother’s Day Song” Sheet Music (pdf).
“Mother’s Day Song” Karaoke (midi with lyrics).

Lyrics: Rosalie Sorrels.
Tune: Rosalie Sorrels.

Now that the children have grown up,
I can sleep until noon.
Now that the children have gone away,
I can sit down and write me a tune.
And if I finish paying for all that they broke,
I can buy me a new dress.
And if some nice man asked me to run away,
I could say, “Yes.”
It’s not that I don’t love the darlings.
I’d do anything for my kids.
But if I had to go through all that one more time,
I’d jump off the Golden Gate Bridge (tra la la).

Now that the children have grown up,
Of course, I don’t sleep until noon.
I worry about where all of them might be
And if they’ll call up or check in pretty soon.
And the nice man who wanted to take me away
Has married someone young and thin.
And I’m over forty, and I’m overweight.
And he’ll never ask me again (tra la la).

Now that the children have grown up,
I can sleep until noon.
Now that the children have gone away,
I can sit down and write me a tune.
And if I finish paying for all that they broke,
I can buy me a new dress (tra la la).
And if some nice man asks me to run away,
I might well say, “Yes!”
