A Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Song.
A Song of the Tavern.

O meine liewe Sie-Sa-Seera!
Sie weisst mer ihre Hie-Haa.
Herring Fisch sin gude Fisch,
Wann sie sin gut zugerischt!

Hinne dutt sie hie-haa-hinke!
Un vanne dutt sie schtie-schtaa.
Schtiwwel die warre vun Ledder gemacht;
Waer des net glaabt, watt ausgelacht!

Das Li-Laa-Lischen!
Hott in des Hemm gschi-gschaa.

Oh my darling See-Saw-Sarah,
She shows me her Hee-Haw.
Herring fish are nice to eat,
When they’re cooked all young and sweet!

In the back she Lee-Law-Limps,
And in the front she Flee-Flaw.
Flour is handy when making a cake.
If you don’t believe it, go jump in the lake!

Our Lee-Law-Lizzy,
And in her shirt she She-Shaw;
Shakes the feathers and plucks the hen;
Jumps on the wagon and off again!

And if you don’t want to believe me,
Then you can let me Lee-Law.
Liverwurst and Democrats
I like as well as mice and rats!
