The Right to Be Lazy (Luis J. Prat)

“The Right to Be Lazy”

Lyrics: Luis J. Prat.
Tune: Luis J. Prat.

You shall work every day of your life,
And you shall work from childhood to old age,
And you shall work yourself into an early grave
Because the boss says so,
The system makes you so,
Because the cops will beat you up if you don’t.

And you shall toil until you wanna faint,
Working so hard, all for minimum wage
That barely keeps you alive, you slave.
Tomorrow you shall toil again
’Cause Adam ate the apple,
It’s written in the Bible,
Only the rich can share the bounty of God.

I claim the right to be lazy.
Why should I work for the boss?
Why should I work sixteen hours a day
When four is more than enough?
Let’s get rid of all the bosses,
Bankers, lawyers, senators.
We’ll keep the fruit of our labor.
We’ll work less and we’ll play more.

And I know just how we can all do this:
The One Big Union with all of us in it.
The Industrial Workers of the World
Have always shown the way
To get rid of the boss
And to win the class war
And make us truly free once and for all.

I claim the right to be lazy.
Why should I work for the boss?
Why should I work sixteen hours a day
When four is more than enough?
Let’s get rid of all the bosses,
Bankers, lawyers, senators.
We’ll keep the fruit of our labor.
We’ll work less and we’ll play more.

And I know just how we can all do this:
The One Big Union with all of us in it.
The Industrial Workers of the World
Have always shown the way
To get rid of the boss
And to win the class war
And make us truly free once and for all.
